McLEAN, VA – Fairfax County businessman and former U.S. Ambassador Al Johnson has announced his campaign to run for the Republican nomination in the race to replace Congresswoman-elect Barbara Comstock in Virginia’s 34th Delegate District.

Al Johnson said, “Northern Virginia benefited from Barbara Comstock’s strong leadership in the Virginia House of Delegates, and it is critical that the same type of experience and commitment to our area continues. I am running because I believe that I am uniquely qualified. My 30-plus years as a GOP activist, trusted advisor to national leaders, and entrepreneur provide the right recipe to ensure our community is well-represented in Richmond on day-one of my term. And as an active member of the McLean community for 20 years, I too have a stake in our community and am committed to fighting for that bright future for northern Virginia.”

“As a U.S. trade ambassador, I successfully fought for American interests at the international negotiations table that resulted in economic growth, jobs and tens of billions of dollars in trade for the United States. Like Barbara Comstock, as a congressional staffer, I worked to build coalitions and bring consensus on important policy matters. As a local businessman, I understand the struggles working Americans and small business owners face on a daily basis to meet payroll and serve their communities. I will bring this experience to Richmond to fight for northern Virginia,” concluded Johnson.

Al Johnson is a commonsense Republican running to represent the 34th District in the Virginia House of Delegates. Al strongly believes in public service, having worked in both the executive and legislative branches of government. While serving as an Ambassador and U.S. trade negotiator in the United States Trade Representative’s Office, he advocated for free market policies with every major US trading partner. His leadership helped create jobs, economic growth, and tens of billions of dollars of U.S. exports. Al is committed to bringing these skills with him to Richmond to ensure Virginia is a leader in the 21st Century global economy.

Al also knows what it takes to succeed in the private sector, where he has spent the majority of his life as a partner and owner of several small businesses, and CEO of several organizations. Currently, as the CEO of Allen F. Johnson & Associates, LLC, an international consulting firm based in McLean, Al understands what it is like to have to make a payroll and serve customers.

Al has been active in the community as a member of the Dean’s Council at George Mason University’s Business School, the McLean Citizens Association, St. Luke’s Catholic Church, and he founded and serves as President of a local non-profit organization called AgriOpportunity (AO) that focuses on assisting rural development.

Al holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from George Mason University, and a Master in Business Administration (MBA) and Master in Food Research from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. He also gained a Certificate in Public Management from Stanford’s Public Management Program.

But of all his achievements, Al’s proudest of being a husband to his wife Sandra and father to their four children who have all been raised in McLean.

The Fairfax County Republican Canvass is will take place from 10am – 2pm on Saturday, November 15th at the Colvin Run Elementary School at 1400 Trap Road in Vienna, VA.
